My first week of internship has begun at the Southern California University Health System. This is a private, non-profit institution that teaches students about Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Ayurveda and Tactical Sports Medicine. They also have a wellness clinic with patients that are both students and general public. This is where I will be having my internship, rotating every few weeks through the different modalities of alternative medicine.

Not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect, or even where this place was that I’d never heard of before! Fortunately, one of my favorite professors teaches there, so that made it easier to acclimate myself to the new surroundings.

One of the more fascinating aspects of this health center is their pharmacy.

Yep, just herbs. In powder, raw to be ground into powder, and capsules. Some herbs are from Chinese medicine, and others are from the ancient medical practice from India called Ayurveda.

Since I’m training to be a health coach, most of my interaction will be observational since I don’t have the clinical training to do much else. I may take vitals later on as I advance through the internship, but we’ll see. I’m just excited to be starting this new chapter in my life! The next few posts will be what I learn from each of the departments.

Take care.
